Bangkok put eight bars on Asia’s 50 Best in 2026 and now rivals Tokyo and Singapore. Here are twenty worth your evening — with what to order, what it costs, and which ones actually have music worth staying for.
Bangkok’s cocktail scene stopped being an underdog somewhere around 2022 and is now genuinely one of the three most serious in Asia. Eight bars from this city placed on Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2026, with two of them inside the top ten, and the local style has become distinct rather than imitative — built on Thai ingredients, Thai heritage, and a willingness to experiment that the older cocktail capitals have partly lost. It’s also excellent value: most top-tier drinks land between 350 and 500 baht, which in Hong Kong or Singapore buys you considerably less. Here’s where to drink, sorted by area.
Eight Bangkok bars made Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2026, led by Bar Us at No.6 and Lennon’s at No.7. Expect 350–500 baht per cocktail at the top tier — strong value against Hong Kong or Singapore. The scene clusters in four areas: Chinatown and Charoenkrung for experimental, Thonglor and Ekkamai for labs and speakeasies, Sathorn and Silom for hotel bars, and Sukhumvit for hidden entrances.
What to Know Before You Go
- Book the top-tier rooms. The Asia’s 50 Best bars fill on weekends, and several are small. A reservation costs nothing and saves the evening.
- Expect 350–500 baht a cocktail at the serious bars, with hotel bars running higher. Hidden neighbourhood bars sit lower.

The Top Tier
1. Bar Us
Bangkok’s highest-ranked bar in 2026 at No.6 in Asia, founded by Sudarat “Taln” Rojanavanich and Veerach “Aum” Sawaengsupt, and describing itself as “not a dining room, but a drinking room.” The menu is built as a journey — light and refreshing at the open, moving into food-driven complexity — and it took the Ketel One Sustainable Bar Award. Music: low and considered; this is a room for tasting. Best for: a serious drinks evening where the menu is the event. Book ahead.
2. Lennon’s
No.7 in Asia and my personal favourite room in the city, because it’s the rare bar where the music is engineered as seriously as the drinks. You enter through a vinyl shop holding around 6,000 records — you can browse, request, or buy — into a mid-century recording-studio fantasy on the 30th floor of Rosewood. The system runs a Nottingham turntable, McIntosh amplification and Harbeth speakers. Music: classic rock, blues, jazz, and some luk krung. 3. Bar Sathorn
No.17 in Asia, inside W Bangkok, and as celebrated for its historic building as its historic cocktail menu — bar manager Marco Dongi describes Bangkok as a city unafraid to experiment while sitting on deep culinary heritage, and the room reflects exactly that. Best for: a drink with architecture around it. Music: unobtrusive, well-judged.
4. BKK Social Club
The Four Seasons riverside bar, styled after the 1900s Art Nouveau movement with soaring arches, a mirrored back bar and golden light — a room that looks like a film set and is run with equal seriousness by Philip Bischoff. Order: the Argentine Negroni. Best for: a serious drink before dinner rather than a casual drop-in. Quietly busy from 6pm; open daily 5pm–midnight.
5. Opium Bar
No.25 in Asia, and the upstairs cocktail answer to Potong in Chinatown — you take a tiny lift from one of the city’s best restaurants, housed in a former pharmacy, into an excellent bar above. Best for: pairing with dinner at Potong, or as the reason to be in Yaowarat after eating. See my Thai restaurants guide.
6. GOD Bar
No.31 in Asia — a church-like space from Niks Anuman-Rajadhon and Attaporn De-Silva, and one of the most theatrical rooms in the city. Music: a genuine part of the concept rather than background. Best for: anyone who wants a bar that commits to an idea completely.
7. Aqua Bar
The 2026 newcomer at No.48, inside Anantara Siam, built around its Potions of the Garden menu. Best for: a central, calm, high-quality drink near Ratchaprasong when Sukhumvit feels like too much.
Chinatown, Charoenkrung and the Old Town
8. Teens of Thailand
The gin bar that arguably started Chinatown’s cocktail movement — a narrow shophouse behind a heavy wooden door, with a gin list that goes deep and a crowd that’s genuinely mixed. Best for: starting a Yaowarat night before the street food.
9. Vesper
A long-standing Silom fixture on the 2026 extended list, serving progressive drinks in a room that’s been reliably excellent for years while flashier bars have come and gone. Best for: a dependable high-quality drink without theatre.
10. Messenger Service
On the 2026 extended list and part of the Charoenkrung creative-district cluster that has become Bangkok’s most interesting drinking neighbourhood. Best for: a bar crawl through Charoenkrung and Talat Noi rather than a single destination.
Thonglor, Ekkamai and Sukhumvit
11. Mahaniyom
A Thonglor cocktail lab that builds drinks from regional Thai ingredients and then writes the recipe on the back of the menu — a small gesture that tells you how confident they are. On the 2026 extended list. Best for: people who want to understand what they’re drinking.
12. Singh
Above Gaggan Anand on Sukhumvit 31, with an Indian-Mexican menu built around a fictional love story, a generous terrace and an award-winning wine list. Best for: a long evening with food, and one of the better outdoor drinking spaces in the area.
13. Rabbit Hole
Three floors of exposed brick in Thonglor — a serious spirit-forward cocktail programme downstairs that becomes a club upstairs as the night runs on. Music: DJ on the upper floors at weekends, hip-hop and soul leaning. Best for: the night that starts with drinking and ends with dancing.
14. Q&A Bar
A narrow, dim room done up like a vintage train carriage near Asok, serving precise spirit-forward classics — the Martinez and the house Martini are the orders. Small, so better for two than six. Best for: a post-dinner drink. More in my bars near BTS Asok guide.
15. Havana Social
Entered through a vintage phone booth with a rotating code on Soi 11, opening into a pre-revolution Cuban bar with rum-led drinks that becomes a genuine dance floor after 11pm. Music: live Latin band plus DJs. Best night: Friday or Saturday.
16. Sugar Ray
On Sukhumvit 24, and one of the few Bangkok bars that takes both the drinks and the sound system seriously — a temple of audio where you escape the downtown noise and tune into crystal-clear playback over a well-built Negroni. Sathorn, Silom and the River
17. The Bamboo Bar
The grand dame of Bangkok cocktail bars, inside the Mandarin Oriental — polished teak, live jazz five nights a week, and a sense of institutional calm nothing newer can manufacture. Order: the Mahanakhon Daiquiri. Best time: arrive early on a weekday and take a sofa near the bandstand.
18. Smalls
A Sathorn institution that’s part cocktail lounge, part listening den, with a shabby-glamorous multi-floor layout and a rooftop. Music: live jazz and considered selections — one of the venues that made Bangkok’s listening culture before anyone called it that. Best for: a late, unhurried evening.
19. Bunker
On Sathon 12, with a strong American whiskey programme and chef-driven snacks that go well beyond bar food. Best for: whiskey drinkers, and for eating properly without leaving the bar.
20. Dry Wave Cocktail Studio
A small, technique-focused room for people who want to watch drinks being built properly rather than be entertained. Best for: the cocktail obsessive, and a good final stop when the bigger rooms have filled.
A Note From NaJade
Two things I’d say that most bar guides won’t. First, the value here is genuinely remarkable and visitors underestimate it — a drink built by a world-ranked bartender in Bangkok costs what a mediocre cocktail costs in London, and that gap is the single best argument for drinking seriously while you’re here. Second, and this is my professional bias showing: pay attention to what’s on the speakers. Most cocktail bars treat music as wallpaper, but a handful in this city — Lennon’s, Sugar Ray, Smalls — engineer the sound with the same care as the drinks, and the difference to an evening is enormous. If you only do one thing from this list, go to Lennon’s early on a weeknight, ask them to play something from the vinyl room, and stay for two drinks. That’s Bangkok’s cocktail scene at its best: technically serious, culturally specific, and quietly showing off.
